Sabbe sarā yosu katanikāra-lopesu dīgham āpajjante.
Aggī, bhikkhū, rattī, yāgū, aṭṭhī, aṭṭhīni, āyū, āyūni, sabbāni, yāni, tāni, kāni, katamāni, etāni, amūni, imāni.
Yosv iti kimatthaṃ? Aggi, bhikkhu, ratti, yāgu, sabbo, yo, so, ko, amuko.
Katanikāralopesv iti kimatthaṃ? Itthiyo, vadhuyo, sayambhuvo.
Pun’ ārambhaggahaṇaṃ kimatthaṃ? Niccadīpanatthaṃ. Aggī, bhikkhū, rattī, yāni, tāni, katamāni.
- Aggī = aggi + yo (‘yo’ is elided (§118); ‘i’ is lengthened (§88)).
- Āyūni = āyu + yo (‘yo’ is substituted by ‘ni’ (§217); ‘u’ is lengthened (§88)).
What is the purpose of saying “when ‘yo’ [follows]”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘yo’, such as in] aggi, bhikkhu, ratti, yāgu, sabbo, yo, so, ko, amuko.
What is the purpose of saying “when it becomes ‘ni’ or is elided”? [This sutta does not apply when it neither becomes ‘ni’ nor is elided, such as in] itthiyo, vadhuyo, sayambhuvo.
What is the purpose of taking this sutta again? To show that it is a fixed operation. Examples: aggī, bhikkhū, rattī, yāni, tāni, katamāni.
