[Iṇṇaṃ-iṇṇannaṃ + tīhi + saṅkhyāhi = 3 words]

Tiṇṇaṃ, tiṇṇannaṃ.

Tīhī ti kimatthaṃ? Dvinnaṃ.

After the numeral “ti”, ‘iṇṇaṃ’ and ‘iṇṇannaṃ’ [of ‘naṃ’].
After the numeral “ti”, the inflection ‘naṃ’ is substituted by ‘iṇṇaṃ’ and ‘iṇṇannaṃ’.
  1. Tiṇṇaṃ, tiṇṇannaṃ = ti + naṃ (‘naṃ’ is substituted by ‘iṇṇaṃ’ and ‘iṇṇannaṃ’ (§87); ‘i’ of “ti” is elided (§83)).

What is the purpose of saying “after the numeral ‘ti’”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘ti’, such as in] dvinnaṃ.
