242. 192. Bhavato bhoto

[Bhavato + bhoto = 2 words]

Sabbass’ eva bhavantasaddassa bhotādeso hoti īkāre itthigate pare.

Bhoti ayye (Vin. ii, 280), bhoti kaññe, bhoti Kharādiye (Khu. v, 4).

“Bhota” of “bhavanta”.
In the feminine, when ‘ī’ follows, the whole word “bhavanta” is substituted by “bhota”.
  1. Bhoti ayye (O lady!), bhoti kaññe (O girl!), bhoti Kharādiye (O Kharādiyā!):
    • Bhoti = bhavanta + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “bhavanta” (§239); “bhavanta” is substituted by “bhota” (§242); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘a’ is elided (§83); ‘ī’ is shortened (§245)).
