Ntussa tam īkāre

Optionally, when ‘ī’ follows, [there is] ‘ta’ of ‘ntu’.

241. 191. Ntussa tam īkāre

[Ntussa + taṃ + īkāre = 3 words]

Sabbass’ eva ntupaccayassa takāro hoti vā īkāre pare.

Guṇavatī, guṇavantī; kulavatī, kulavantī; satimatī, satimantī; mahatī, mahantī; gottamatī, gottamantī.

Optionally, when ‘ī’ follows, [there is] ‘ta’ of ‘ntu’.
Optionally, when the letter ‘ī’ follows, the whole suffix ‘ntu’ becomes ‘ta’.
  1. Guṇavatī = guṇavantu + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “guṇavantu” (§239); ‘ntu’ is substituted by ‘ta’ (§241); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
