Pati-bhikkhu-rāj’-īkārantehi inī

After “pati”, “bhikkhu”, “rāja” and [the words] ending in the letter ‘ī’, [there is] ‘inī’.

240. 193. Pati-bhikkhu-rāj’-īkārantehi inī (469-70)

[Pati-bhikkhu-rāja-īkārantehi + inī = 2 words]

Pati-bhikkhu-rāj’-īkārantehi itthiyaṃ vattamānehi inī-paccayo hoti.

Gahapatānī, bhikkhunī, rājinī, hatthinī, daṇḍinī, medhāvinī, tapassinī.

After “pati”, “bhikkhu”, “rāja” and [the words] ending in the letter ‘ī’, [there is] ‘inī’.
In the feminine, after “pati”, “bhikkhu”, “rāja” and [the words] ending in the letter ‘ī’, there is the suffix ‘inī’.
  1. Gahapatānī = gahapati + si (‘inī’ is inserted after “gahapati” (§240); ‘i’ of “pati” is substituted by ‘a’ (§91); ‘i’ of ‘inī’ is elided (§13); ‘a’ is lengthened (§16); ‘si’ is elided (§220)).
  2. Bhikkhunī = bhikkhu + si (‘inī’ is inserted after “bhikkhu” (§240); ‘i’ of ‘inī’ is elided (§13); ‘si’ is elided (§220)).
  3. Rājinī = rāja + si (‘inī’ is inserted after “rāja” (§240); ‘a’ is elided (§83); ‘si’ is elided (§220)).
