U sasmiṃ salopo ca

When ‘sa’ follows, [there is] ‘u’ and the elision of ‘sa’.

[U + sasmiṃ + salopo + ca = 4 words]

Satthu pitu icc evamādīnam antassa uttaṃ hoti vā sasmiṃ salopo ca.

Satthu, satthussa, satthuno dīyate, pariggaho vā. Pitu, pitussa, pituno dīyate, pariggaho vā. Bhātu, bhātussa, bhātuno dīyate, pariggaho vā. Caggahaṇaṃ dutiyasampiṇḍanatthaṃ.

When ‘sa’ follows, [there is] ‘u’ and the elision of ‘sa’.
Optionally, when [the inflection] ‘sa’ follows, the end [vowel] of “satthu”, “pitu”, etc., becomes ‘u’ and ‘sa’ is elided.
  1. Satthu, satthussa, satthuno dīyate, pariggaho vā (it is given to the teacher, or [it is] the possession of the teacher):
    • Satthu = satthu + sa (‘u’ of “satthu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘sa’ is elided (§203)).
    • Satthussa = satthu + sa (‘u’ of “satthu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘s’ is inserted (§61)).
    • Satthuno = satthu + sa (‘u’ of “satthu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘u’ is named ‘la’ (§58); ‘sa’ is substituted by ‘no’ (§117)).
  1. Pitu, pitussa, pituno dīyate, pariggaho vā (it is given to the father, or [it is] the possession of the father):
    • Pitu = pitu + sa (‘u’ of “pitu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘sa’ is elided (§203)).
    • Pitussa = pitu + sa (‘u’ of “pitu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘s’ is inserted (§61)).
    • Pituno = pitu + sa (‘u’ of “pitu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘u’ is named ‘la’ (§58); ‘sa’ is substituted by ‘no’ (§117)).
  1. Bhātu, bhātussa, bhātuno dīyate, pariggaho vā (it is given to the brother, or [it is] the possession of the brother):
    • Bhātu = bhātu + sa (‘u’ of “bhātu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘sa’ is elided (§203)).
    • Bhātussa = bhātu + sa (‘u’ of “bhātu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘s’ is inserted (§61)).
    • Bhātuno = bhātu + sa (‘u’ of “bhātu” is substituted by ‘u’ (§203); ‘u’ is named ‘la’ (§58); ‘sa’ is substituted by ‘no’ (§117)).

The taking of “ca” is for the inclusion of the second [meaning].
