204. 167. Sakkamandhātādīnañ ca (419)

[Sakkamandhātu-ādīnaṃ + ca = 2 words]

Sakkamandhātu icc evamādīnam anto uttam āpajjate sasmiṃ, salopo ca hoti.

Sakkamandhātu iva assa rājino vibhavo. Evaṃ kattu, gantu, dātu icc evamādī.

Pun’ ārambhaggahaṇam kimatthaṃ? Niccadīpanatthaṃ. Sakkamandhātu.

Caggahaṇaṃ dutiyasampiṇḍanatthaṃ.

And of “sakkamandhātu”, etc.
When [the inflection] ‘sa’ follows, the end [vowel] of “sakkamandhātu”, etc., becomes ‘u’; and ‘sa’ is elided.
  1. Sakkamandhātu iva assa rājino vibhavo (the wealth of that king is like that [of king] Sakkamandhātu):
    • Sakkamandhātu = sakkamandhātu + sa (‘u’ of “sakkamandhātu” becomes ‘u’ (§204); ‘sa’ is elided (§204)).
  1. Evaṃ kattu, gantu, dātu icc evamādī (thus also kattu, gantu, dātu, etc.):
    • Kattu = kattu + sa (‘u’ of “kattu” becomes ‘u’ (§204); ‘sa’ is elided (§204)).
    • Gantu = gantu + sa (‘u’ of “gantu” becomes ‘u’ (§204); ‘sa’ is elided (§204)).
    • Dātu = dātu + sa (‘u’ of “dātu” becomes ‘u’ (§204); ‘sa’ is elided (§204)).

What is the purpose of the repetition of this sutta? To fix the change of ‘u’ into ‘u’. Sakkamandhātu.

The taking of “ca” is for the inclusion of the second [meaning].

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
