- Etissaṃ = etā + smiṃ (‘ā’ of “etā” is named ‘gha’ (§60); ‘smiṃ’ does not become ‘āya’ or ‘yā’ (§180); ‘smiṃ’ becomes ‘saṃ’ (§179); ‘s’ is inserted (§62); ‘ā’ of “etā” becomes ‘i’ (§63)).
What is the purpose of saying “‘smiṃ’”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘smiṃ’, such as in:] Tāya itthiyā mukhaṃ. (The face of that woman.)
What is the purpose of saying “after these [pronouns]”? [This sutta does not apply when ‘smiṃ’ does not follow the pronouns, such as in:] Kaññāya, vīṇāya, gaṅgāya, kapālikāya.
