94. 105. Simhi vā (252)

[Simhi + vā = 2 words]

Ntupaccayassa antassa attaṃ hoti vā simhi vibhattimhi.

Himavanto pabbato (Khu. i, 56).

Vā ti kimatthaṃ? Himavā pabbato.

Optionally, when the inflection ‘si’ follows.
Optionally, when the inflection ‘si’ follows, the end vowel of the suffix ‘ntu’ becomes ‘a’.
  1. Himavanto = himavantu + si (‘u’ of ‘ntu’ becomes ‘a’ (§94); ‘si’ is substituted by ‘o’ (§104); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).

What is the purpose of saying “optionally”? [This sutta does not always apply, such as in] himavā pabbato.

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
