104. 66. S’ o (272)

[Si + o = 2 words]

Tasmā akārato sivacanassa okārādeso hoti.

Sabbo, yo, so, ko, amuko, puriso.

Sī ti kimatthaṃ? Purisānaṃ.

Ato ti kimatthaṃ? Sayambhū.

‘Si’ [becomes] ‘o’.
After the letter ‘a’, the inflection ‘si’ is substituted by ‘o’.
  1. Sabbo = sabba + si (‘si’ is substituted by ‘o’ (§104); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
  2. The formation of the rest of the examples is similar to the previous one.

What is the purpose of saying ‘si’? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘si’, such as in] purisānaṃ.

What is the purpose of saying “after ‘a’”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘a’, such as in] sayambhū.
