68. 184. Am-ā pato smiṃ-smānaṃ vā (216)

[Aṃ-ā + pato + smiṃ-smānaṃ + vā = 4 words]

Pa icc etasmā smiṃ smā icc etesaṃ aṃ-ā ādesā honti vā yathāsaṅkhyaṃ.

Matyaṃ, matiyaṃ, matyā (Khu. vi, 39), matiyā. Nikatyaṃ, nikatiyaṃ (Khu. vi, 39), nikatyā (Khu. v, 9), nikatiyā. Vikatyaṃ, vikatiyaṃ, vikatyā, vikatiyā. Viratyaṃ, viratiyaṃ, viratyā, viratiyā. Ratyaṃ, ratiyaṃ, ratyā (Khu. vi, 315), ratiyā. Puthabyaṃ, puthaviyaṃ, puthabyā, puthaviyā. Pavatyaṃ, pavatyā, pavattiyaṃ, pavattiyā.

  1. Matyaṃ = mati + smiṃ (‘i’ of “mati” is named ‘pa’ (§59); ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by ‘aṃ’ (§68); ‘i’ of “mati” is substituted by ‘y’ (§72)).
  2. Matyā = mati + smā (‘i’ of “mati” is named ‘pa’ (§59); ‘smā’ is substituted by ‘ā’ (§68); ‘i’ of “mati” is substituted by ‘y’ (§72)).
  3. The formation of the rest of the examples is similar to the previous ones.
