50. 45. O avassa (126)

[O + avassa = 2 words]

Ava icc etassa byañjane pare kvaci (sometimes) okāro hoti.

Andhakārena onaddhā (Khu. i, 35).

Kvacī ti kasmā? Avasussatu me sarīre maṃsalohitaṃ (M. ii, 146).

‘O’ of ‘ava’.
When a consonant follows, sometimes there is the substitution of ‘ava’ by ‘o’.
Example: “Andhakārena onaddhā”.

Onaddhā: ava naddhā; o naddhā (§50); onaddhā (§11).

Why say “sometimes”? [To prevent the operation of this rule in the following example] “Avasussatu me sarīre maṃsalohitaṃ”.

Avasussatu. Here there is no substitution of ‘ava’ by ‘o’.

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
