46. 26. Te na vā ivaṇṇe (59)

[Te + na + vā + i-vaṇṇe = 4 words]

Te ca kho abhi adhi icc ete ivaṇṇe pare abbho ajjho iti vuttarūpā na honti vā.

Abhicchitaṃ, adhīritaṃ.

Vā ti kasmā? Abbhīritaṃ, ajjhiṇamutto.

Optionally, when ‘i’ and ‘ī’ follow, they are not [applied].
When the letters ‘i’ and ‘ī’ follow, ‘abhi’ and ‘adhi’ optionally are not substituted by the said forms: ‘abbh’ and ‘ajjh’.
Examples: “Abhicchitaṃ”, “adhīritaṃ”.

Abhicchitaṃ: abhi icchitaṃ; abh i icchitaṃ (§10); abh icchitaṃ (§12); abhicchitaṃ (§11).

Adhīritaṃ: adhi īritaṃ; adh i īritaṃ (§10); adh īritaṃ (§12); adhīritaṃ (§11).

Why say “optionally”? [To allow the operation of this rule in the following examples] “Abbhīritaṃ”, “ajjhiṇamutto”.

Abbhīritaṃ: abhi īritaṃ; abbh īritaṃ (§44); abbhīritaṃ (§11).

Ajjhiṇamutto: adhi iṇa mutto; ajjh iṇa mutto (§44); ajjhiṇamutto (§11).
