43. 33. Pāssa c’ anto rasso (54)

[Pā-ssa + ca + anto + rasso = 4 words]

Pā icc etassa ante sare pare kvaci (sometimes) gakārāgamo hoti, anto ca saro rasso hoti.

Pag eva (Khu. v, 111) vutyassa.

Kvacī ti kasmā? Pā eva (Vin. iv, 476) vutyassa.

And at the end of ‘pā’, [insertion of ‘g’,] short.
At the end of ‘pā’, when a vowel follows, sometimes there is the insertion of the letter ‘g’, and the end vowel becomes short.
Example: “Pag eva”.

Pag eva: pā eva; pā g eva, pa g eva (§43); pageva (§11); pag eva (ME).

Why say “sometimes”? [To prevent the operation of this rule in the following example] “Pā eva”.

Pā eva. Here this rule does not apply.
