308. 317. Chaṭṭhī ca (634)

[Chaṭṭhī + ca = 2 words]

Tatiyā-sattamīnaṃ atthe ca kvaci chaṭṭhīvibhatti hoti.

Kato me kalyāṇo, kataṃ me pāpaṃ. Evaṃ tatiyatthe.

Kusalā naccagītassa sikkhitā cāturitthiyo (Khu. vi, 156, 158); kusalo tvaṃ rathassa aṅgapaccaṅgānaṃ (M. ii, 58). Evaṃ sattamyatthe.

Kvacī ti kimatthaṃ? Yo vo Ānanda mayā dhammo ca vinayo ca desito paññatto. Ānando atthesu vicakkhaṇo.

And the sixth [inflection].
Sometimes there is also the sixth inflection in the meaning of the third and of the seventh [inflection].
  1. Kato me kalyāṇo, kataṃ me pāpaṃ (the good has been done by me; the evil has been done by me).

Thus in the meaning of the third [inflection].

  1. Kusalā naccagītassa sikkhitā cāturitthiyo (graceful women, skilled and trained in dance and song).
  2. Kusalo tvaṃ rathassa aṅgapaccaṅgānaṃ (are you skilled in the different parts of the chariot?).

Thus in the meaning of the seventh [inflection].

What is the purpose of saying “kvaci” (sometimes)? [To show exceptions to this sutta, as in:] Yo vo Ānanda mayā dhammo ca vinayo ca desito paññatto (Ānanda, the Dhamma and the Vinaya that have been preached and established for you by me). Ānando atthesu vicakkhaṇo (Ānanda is skilled in the meanings).

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
