24. 35. Sare kvaci (63)

[Sare + kvaci = 2 words]

Sarā kho sare pare kvaci (sometimes) pakatirūpāni honti.

Ko imaṃ pathaviṃ vicessati (Khu. i, 19).

Kvacī ti kasmā? Appassut’ āyaṃ puriso (Khu. i, 36).

Sometimes, when a vowel follows.
When a vowel follows, sometimes vowels retain their original forms.
Example: “Ko imaṃ pathaviṃ vicessati”.

“Ko imaṃ.” Here the ‘o’ of “ko” remains unchanged when followed by a vowel.

Why say “sometimes”? [To prevent the operation of this rule in the following example] “Appassut’ āyaṃ puriso”.

Appassut’ āyaṃ
  1. appassuto ayaṃ
  2. appassut o ayaṃ (§10)
  3. appassut ayaṃ (§12)
  4. appassut āyaṃ (§15)
  5. appassutāyaṃ (§11)
  6. appassut’ āyaṃ (ME)
