Nadādito vā ī

[Nada-ādito + vā + ī = 3 words]

Nadādito vā anadādito vā itthiyaṃ vattamānāya ī-paccayo hoti.

Nadī, mahī, kumārī, taruṇī, sakhī, itthī.

Optionally, after “nada”, etc., [there is] ‘ī’.
Optionally, in the feminine, after “nada”, etc., and after the words which are not “nadādi”, there is the suffix ‘ī’.
  1. Nadī = nada + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “nada” (§238); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
  2. Mahī = maha + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “maha” (§238); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
  3. Kumārī = kumāra + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “kumāra” (§238); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
  4. Taruṇī = taruṇa + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “taruṇa” (§238); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
  5. Sakhī = sakha + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “sakha” (§238); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
  6. Itthī = itthi + si (‘ī’ is inserted after “itthi” (§238); ‘si’ is elided (§220); ‘i’ is elided (§83)).
