After that, ‘smiṃ’ [becomes] ‘i’.

[Tato + smiṃ + i = 3 words]

Tato ārādesato smiṃvacanassa ikārādeso hoti.

Satthari, pitari, mātari, dhītari, bhātari, kattari, vattari.

Puna tatogahaṇena aññasmā pi smiṃvacanassa ikāro hoti. Bhuvi.

After that, ‘smiṃ’ [becomes] ‘i’.
After the substitution ‘āra’, the inflection ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by ‘i’.
  1. Satthari = satthu + smiṃ (‘u’ of “satthu” becomes ‘āra’ (§200); ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by ‘i’ (§206); ‘ā’ of “āra” is shortened (§208); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).
