Sesesu ntu ’va

187. 108. Sesesu ntu ’va (385-8)

[Sesesu + ntu + iva = 3 words]

Gacchantādīnaṃ ntasaddo ntuppaccayo ’va daṭṭhabbo sesesu vibhattippaccayesu.

Gacchato, mahato; gacchati, mahati, gacchatā, mahatā.

Sesesv iti kimatthaṃ? Gacchaṃ, mahaṃ, caraṃ, khādaṃ.

When the remaining [inflections] follow, like ‘ntu’.
When the remaining inflections follow, the suffix ‘nta’ of “gacchanta” and others is to be regarded as ‘ntu’.
  1. Gacchato = gacchanta + sa (‘nta’ is regarded as ‘ntu’ (§187); ‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘sa’ is substituted by ‘to’ (§127)).
  2. Mahato = mahanta + sa (‘nta’ is regarded as ‘ntu’ (§187); ‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘sa’ is substituted by ‘to’ (§127)).
  3. Gacchati = gacchanta + smiṃ (‘nta’ is regarded as ‘ntu’ (§187); ‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by ‘ti’ (§127)).
  4. Mahati = mahanta + smiṃ (‘nta’ is regarded as ‘ntu’ (§187); ‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by ‘ti’ (§127)).
