Sabbass’ eva ntupaccayassa savibhattissa to-ti-tādesā honti vā sa smiṃ nā icc etesu yathāsaṅkhyaṃ.
Guṇavato, guṇavantassa; guṇavati, guṇavantasmiṃ; guṇavatā, guṇavantena; satimato, satimantassa; satimati, satimantasmiṃ; satimatā, satimantena.
Etesv iti kimatthaṃ? Guṇavā. Satimā (M. i, 70).
- Guṇavato = guṇavantu + sa (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘sa’ is substituted by ‘to’ (§127)).
- Guṇavati = guṇavantu + smiṃ (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by ‘ti’ (§127)).
- Guṇavatā = guṇavantu + nā (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘nā’ is substituted by ‘tā’ (§127)).
- Satimato = satimantu + sa (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘sa’ is substituted by ‘to’ (§127)).
- Satimati = satimantu + smiṃ (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by ‘ti’ (§127)).
- Satimatā = satimantu + nā (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘nā’ is substituted by ‘tā’ (§127)).
What is the purpose of saying “when these follow”? [This sutta does not apply when these do not follow, such as in] guṇavā, satimā.
