Sabbass’ eva ntupaccayassa savibhattissa taṃ-ādeso hoti vā naṃmhi vibhattimhi.
Guṇavataṃ, guṇavantānaṃ; satimataṃ, satimantānaṃ.
Naṃmhi ti kimatthaṃ? Guṇavanto tiṭṭhanti. Satimanto tiṭṭhanti.
- Guṇavataṃ = guṇavantu + naṃ (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘naṃ’ is substituted by ‘taṃ’ (§128)).
- Satimataṃ = satimantu + naṃ (‘ntu’ together with the inflection ‘naṃ’ is substituted by ‘taṃ’ (§128)).
What is the purpose of saying “when ‘naṃ’ follows”? [This sutta does not apply when ‘naṃ’ does not follow, such as in] guṇavanto tiṭṭhanti, satimanto tiṭṭhanti.
