Susmim ā vā

[Susmiṃ + ā + vā = 3 words]

Puma icc evam antassa su icc etasmiṃ vibhattimhi ā-ādeso hoti vā.

Pumāsu, pumesu vā.

Optionally, when ‘su’ follows, [there is] ‘ā’.
Optionally, when the inflection ‘su’ follows, the end vowel of “puma” is substituted by ‘ā’.
  1. Pumāsu = puma + su (‘a’ of “puma” is substituted by ‘ā’ (§158)).
  2. Pumesu = puma + su (‘a’ of “puma” is substituted by ‘e’ (§101)).
