U nāmhi ca

And when ‘nā’ follows, [there is] ‘u’.

159. 139. U nāmhi ca (340)

[U + nāmhi + ca = 3 words]

Puma icc evam antassa ā-u-ādesā honti vā nāmhi vibhattimhi.

Pumānā, pumunā, pumena vā.

Caggahaṇam anukaḍḍhanatthaṃ.

And when ‘nā’ follows, [there is] ‘u’.
Optionally, when the inflection ‘nā’ follows, the end vowel of “puma” is substituted by ‘ā’ or ‘u’.
  1. Pumānā = puma + nā (‘a’ of “puma” is substituted by ‘ā’ (§159)).
  2. Pumunā = puma + nā (‘a’ of “puma” is substituted by ‘u’ (§159)).

The taking of “ca” is for dragging.
