Yaṃ karoti taṃ kammaṃ

[One] does that, that is “kamma”.

280. 285. Yaṃ karoti taṃ kammaṃ (551)

[Yaṃ + karoti + taṃ + kammaṃ = 4 words]

Yaṃ vā karoti, yaṃ vā passati, yaṃ vā suṇāti, taṃ kārakaṃ kammasaññaṃ hoti.

Chattaṃ karoti; rathaṃ karoti; rūpaṃ passati (D. ii, 269); saddaṃ suṇāti (D. ii, 269); kaṇṭakaṃ maddati; visaṃ gilati.

Kammam icc anena kvattho? Kammatthe dutiyā.

[One] does that, that is “kamma”.
Does that, sees that, hears that: that case has the name “object”.
  1. Chattaṃ karoti ([he] makes an umbrella).
  2. Rathaṃ karoti (makes a chariot).
  3. Rūpaṃ passati (sees a form).
  4. Saddaṃ suṇāti (hears a sound).
  5. Kaṇṭakaṃ maddati (steps on a thorn).
  6. Visaṃ gilati (swallows poison).

What is the use of the name “kamma” (object)? For the use of the name “kamma” in the sutta “Kammatthe dutiyā” (§297). In the meaning of the object, the second [inflection].
