Rakkhaṇatthānam icchitaṃ

That which is desired [in connection with] those meaning protection.

273. 310. Rakkhaṇatthānam icchitaṃ (569)

[Rakkhaṇa-atthānaṃ + icchitaṃ = 2 words]

Rakkhaṇatthānaṃ dhātūnaṃ payoge yaṃ icchitaṃ, taṃ kārakaṃ apādānasaññaṃ hoti.

Kāke rakkhanti taṇḍulā; yavā paṭisedhenti gāvo.

That which is desired [in connection with] those meaning protection.
When there is connection with roots having the meaning of protection, that which is desired, that case has the name “apādāna” (starting point).
  1. Kāke rakkhanti taṇḍulā (they keep the crows away from the rice).
  2. Yavā paṭisedhenti gāvo (they keep the cows away from the barley).
