Yena vā ’dassanaṃ

274. 311. Yena vā ’dassanaṃ (570)

[Yena + vā + adassanaṃ = 3 words]

Yena vā adassanam icchitaṃ, taṃ kārakaṃ apādānasaññaṃ hoti.

Upajjhāyā antaradhāyati sisso; mātarā ca pitarā ca antaradhāyati putto.

Vā ti kimatthaṃ? Sattamīvibhatyatthaṃ. Jetavane antaradhāyati Bhagavā.

Optionally, by whom not being seen [is desired].
Optionally, that by whom not being seen is desired: that case has the name “apādāna” (starting point).
  1. Upajjhāyā antaradhāyati sisso (the student hides from the preceptor).
  2. Mātarā ca pitarā ca antaradhāyati putto (the son hides from the mother and the father).

What is the purpose of saying “vā” (optionally)? To [allow] the meaning of the seventh inflection. Jetavane antaradhāyati Bhagavā (the Blessed One disappeared in [from] Jetavana).
