191. 130. Sakhato c’ āyo no (394)

[Sakhato + ca + āyo-no = 3 words]

Tasmā sakhato ca yonaṃ āyo-no-ādesā honti.

Sakhāyo, sakhino. Yonam iti kimatthaṃ? Sakhā.

And after “sakha”, [there are] ‘āyo’ and ‘no’.
And after “sakha”, [the inflection] ‘yo’ is substituted by ‘āyo’ and ‘no’.
  1. Sakhāyo = sakha + yo (‘yo’ is substituted by ‘āyo’ (§191); ‘a’ of “sakha” is elided (§83)).
  2. Sakhino = sakha + yo (‘yo’ is substituted by ‘no’ (§191); ‘a’ of “sakha” is substituted by ‘i’ (§194)).

What is the purpose of saying “of ‘yo’”? [This sutta does not apply when ‘yo’ does not follow, such as in:] sakhā.

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
