161. 244. Tumh’-amhehi nam ākaṃ (344)

[Tumha-amhehi + naṃ + ākaṃ = 3 words]

Tehi tumha-amhehi naṃvacanassa ākaṃ hoti.

Tumhākaṃ, amhākaṃ.

Naṃ iti kimatthaṃ? Tumhehi, amhehi.

After “tumha” and “amha”, ‘naṃ’ [becomes] ‘ākaṃ’.
After [the bases] “tumha” and “amha”, there is ‘ākaṃ’ of the inflection ‘naṃ’.
  1. Tumhākaṃ = tumha + naṃ (‘naṃ’ is substituted by ‘ākaṃ’ (§161); ‘a’ is elided (§83)).

What is the purpose of saying “naṃ”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘naṃ’, such as in:] Tumhehi, amhehi.

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
