Text and translation
Read in the chapter →139. 245. Tumh’-āmhākaṃ tayi mayi (318)
Sabbessaṃ tumha-amhasaddānaṃ savibhattīnaṃ tayi mayi icc ete ādesā honti yathāsaṅkhyaṃ smiṃmhi vibhattimhi.
Tayi, mayi.
Smiṃmhī ti kimatthaṃ? Tvaṃ bhavasi. Ahaṃ bhavāmi.
- Tayi = tumha + smiṃ (“tumha” together with the inflection ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by “tayi” (§139)).
- Mayi = amha + smiṃ (“amha” together with the inflection ‘smiṃ’ is substituted by “mayi” (§139)).
What is the purpose of saying “when the inflection ‘smiṃ’ follows”? [This sutta does not apply when ‘smiṃ’ does not follow, such as in] tvaṃ bhavasi, ahaṃ bhavāmi.
Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
