Rājassa rañño rājino se

When the inflection ‘sa’ follows, “rañño” and “rājino” [of] “rāja”.

[Rājassa + rañño-rājino + se = 3 words]

Sabbass’ eva rājasaddassa savibhattissa rañño rājino (Khu. i, 324) icc ete ādesā honti se vibhattimhi.

Rañño, rājino.

Se ti kimatthaṃ? Raññā.

When the inflection ‘sa’ follows, “rañño” and “rājino” [of] “rāja”.
When the inflection ‘sa’ follows, the whole word “rāja” together with the inflection is substituted by “rañño” and “rājino”.
  1. Rañño = rāja + sa (“rāja” together with the inflection ‘sa’ is substituted by “rañño” (§135)).
  2. Rājino = rāja + sa (“rāja” together with the inflection ‘sa’ is substituted by “rājino” (§135)).

What is the purpose of saying “when the inflection ‘sa’ follows”? [This sutta does not apply when ‘sa’ does not follow, such as in] raññā.
