The letter ‘a’ of “pañca”, etc.
When ‘yo’ follows, the end vowel together with the inflection, of the numerals “pañca”, etc., which are feminine, masculine and neuter, is substituted by the letter ‘a’.
  1. Pañca = pañca + yo (‘a’ of “pañca” together with the inflection ‘yo’ is substituted by ‘a’ (§134)).
  2. The formation of the rest of the examples is similar to the previous one.

What is the purpose of saying “of the numerals ‘pañca’, etc.”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no “pañca”, etc., such as in] dve, tayo.
