[Ghato + nādīnaṃ = 2 words]

Tasmā ghato nādīnam ekavacanānaṃ vibhattigaṇānaṃ āyādeso hoti.

Kaññāya kataṃ kammaṃ, kaññāya dīyate, kaññāya nissaṭaṃ vatthaṃ. Kaññāya pariggaho, kaññāya patiṭṭhitaṃ sīlaṃ.

Ghato ti kimatthaṃ? Rattiyā, itthiyā, dhenuyā, vadhuyā.

Ekavacanānam iti kimatthaṃ? Sabbāsu, yāsu, tāsu, kāsu, imāsu, pabhāsu.

After ‘gha’, [there is ‘āya’] of ‘nā’ and others.
After ‘gha’, the group of singular inflections beginning with ‘nā’ is substituted by ‘āya’.
  1. Kaññāya = kaññā + nā (‘ā’ of “kaññā” is named ‘gha’ (§60); ‘nā’ is substituted by ‘āya’ (§111); ‘ā’ is elided (§83)).
  2. The formation of the rest of the examples is similar to the previous one.

What is the purpose of saying “after ‘gha’”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘gha’, such as in] rattiyā, itthiyā, dhenuyā, vadhuyā.

What is the purpose of saying “‘nā’, etc.”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘nā’, etc., such as in] kaññaṃ passati; vijjaṃ, vīṇaṃ, gaṅgaṃ.

What is the purpose of saying “singular”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no singular, such as in] sabbāsu, yāsu, tāsu, kāsu, imāsu, pabhāsu.

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
