After ‘pa’, ‘yā’.
After ‘pa’, the group of singular inflections beginning with ‘nā’ is substituted by ‘yā’.
  1. Rattiyā = ratti + nā (‘i’ of “ratti” is named ‘pa’ (§59); ‘nā’ is substituted by ‘yā’ (§112)).
  2. Dhenuyā = dhenu + nā (‘u’ of “dhenu” is named ‘pa’ (§59); ‘nā’ is substituted by ‘yā’ (§112)).
  3. The formation of the rest of the examples is similar to the previous one.

What is the purpose of saying “of those beginning with ‘nā’”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘nā’, etc., such as in] rattī, rattiṃ; itthī, itthiṃ.

What is the purpose of saying “after ‘pa’”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no ‘pa’, such as in] kaññāya, vīṇāya, gaṅgāya, pabhāya, sobhāya.

What is the purpose of saying “singular”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no singular, such as in] rattīnaṃ, itthīnaṃ.

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
