Tayo n’ eva ca sabbanāmehi

And after the pronouns, the three are not [substituted].

110. 201. Tayo n’ eva ca sabbanāmehi (281)

[Tayo + na + eva + ca + sabbanāmehi = 5 words]

Tehi sabbanāmehi akārantehi smā smiṃ sa icc etesaṃ tayo ā-e-āyādesā n’ eva honti.

Sabbasmā, sabbasmiṃ, sabbassa. Yasmā, yasmiṃ, yassa. Tasmā, tasmiṃ, tassa. Kasmā, kasmiṃ, kassa. Imasmā, imasmiṃ, imassa.

Sabbanāmehi ti kimatthaṃ? Pāpā, pāpe, pāpāya.

Caggahaṇam anukaḍḍhanatthaṃ.

And after the pronouns, the three are not [substituted].
After the pronouns ending in ‘a’, ‘smā’, ‘smiṃ’ and ‘sa’ are not substituted by the following three: ‘ā’, ‘e’ and ‘āya’.
  1. Sabbasmā = sabba + smā (‘smā’ is not substituted by ‘ā’ (§110)).
  2. The formation of the rest of the examples is similar to the previous one.

What is the purpose of saying “after pronouns”? [This sutta does not apply when there are no pronouns, such as in] pāpā, pāpe, pāpāya.

“Ca” is for dragging.
