106. 313. Dīgh’-orehi (274)

[Dīgha-orehi = 1 word]

Dīgha ora icc etehi smāvacanassa so-ādeso hoti vā.

Dīghaso (Vin. i, 227), oraso; dīghamhā, oramhā.

Dīgh’-orehi ti kimatthaṃ? Saramhā, vacanamhā.

After “dīgha” and “ora”.
Optionally, after “dīgha” and “ora”, the inflection ‘smā’ is substituted by ‘so’.
  1. Dīghaso = dīgha + smā (‘smā’ is substituted by ‘so’ (§106)).
  2. Oraso = ora + smā (‘smā’ is substituted by ‘so’ (§106)).

What is the purpose of saying “after ‘dīgha’ and ‘ora’”? [This sutta does not apply when there is no “dīgha” or “ora”, such as in] saramhā, vacanamhā.
