Mā y-ūnam āgamo ṭhāne

Let there be no [strengthening] of ‘i’ and ‘u’; in the [appropriate] place [there is] the insertion.

401. 375. Mā y-ūnam āgamo ṭhāne (848)

[Mā + i-ū-naṃ + āgamo + ṭhāne = 4 words]

I u icc etesaṃ ādibhūtānaṃ mā vuddhi hoti, tesu ca e-ovuddhāgamo hoti ṭhāne.

Byākaraṇam adhīte veyyākaraṇiko (D. i, 82; DA. i, 220-Sad. sutta 850), nyāyam adhīte neyyāyiko, Byāvacchassa apaccaṃ Beyyāvaccho, dvāre niyutto dovāriko (A. ii, 481-Sad. sutta 854).

Let there be no [strengthening] of ‘i’ and ‘u’; in the [appropriate] place [there is] the insertion.
Let there be no strengthening of ‘i’ and ‘u’ when they are at the beginning; and in those [cases], in the appropriate place, there is the insertion of the strengthenings ‘e’ and ‘o’.
  1. Byākaraṇam adhīte veyyākaraṇiko (he studies grammar: a grammarian).
  2. Nyāyam adhīte neyyāyiko (he studies logic: a logician).
  3. Byāvacchassa apaccaṃ Beyyāvaccho (the offspring of Byāvaccha).
  4. Dvāre niyutto dovāriko (occupied at the door: a gatekeeper).
