Guṇādito vantu

368. 402. Guṇādito vantu (792)

[Guṇa-ādito + vantu = 2 words]

Guṇa icc evamādito vantupaccayo hoti “tad ass’ atthi” icc etasmiṃ atthe.

Guṇo yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti guṇavā. Evaṃ yasavā, dhanavā, paññavā (M. ii, 19), balavā (D. ii, 203), bhagavā (Vin. i, 1).

After “guṇa” (virtue) and others, [there is] ‘vantu’.
After “guṇa” (virtue) and others, there is the suffix ‘vantu’ in this meaning: “there is this of him”.
  1. Guṇo yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti guṇavā (there is virtue of/in him, or [virtue] exists in him: a virtuous one).

Likewise:

  1. Yaso yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti yasavā (there is fame of/in him: a famous one).
  2. Dhanaṃ yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti dhanavā (there is wealth of/in him: a rich one).
  3. Paññā yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti paññavā (there is wisdom of/in him: a wise one).
  4. Balaṃ yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti balavā (there is strength of/in him: a strong one).
  5. Bhagaṃ yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti bhagavā (there is fortune of/in him: the Fortunate One/Blessed One = the Buddha).
