Tad ass’ atthī ti vī ca

And [there is] ‘vī’ in “there is this of him”.

364. 398. Tad ass’ atthī ti vī ca (787)

[Taṃ + assa + atthi + iti + vī + ca = 6 words]

“Tad ass’ atthi” icc etasmiṃ atthe vīpaccayo hoti.

Medhā yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti medhāvī (Vin. ii, 17; iii, 10). Evaṃ māyāvī (M. i, 143).

Caggahaṇena sopaccayo hoti. Sumedhā yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti sumedhaso (A. i, 381).

And [there is] ‘vī’ in “there is this of him”.
In this meaning, “there is this of him (tad ass’ atthi)”, there is the suffix ‘vī’.
  1. Medhā yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti medhāvī (there is wisdom of/in him, or [wisdom] exists in him: a wise one).
  2. Likewise: māyā yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti māyāvī (there is deceit of/in him, or [deceit] exists in him: a deceitful one).

By taking “ca”, there is the suffix ‘so’.

  1. Sumedhā yassa atthi, tasmiṃ vā vijjatī ti sumedhaso (there is good wisdom of/in him, or [good wisdom] exists in him: a wise one).
