183. 48. Etesam o lope (375)

[Etesaṃ + o + lope = 3 words]

Etesaṃ manogaṇādīnaṃ anto ottam āpajjate vibhattilope kate.

Manomayaṃ (D. i, 73), ayomayaṃ (Khu. i, 383), tejosamena, tapoguṇena, siroruhena.

Ādiggahaṇaṃ kimatthaṃ? Aññesam anto ottam āpajjate. Āposamena, vāyosamena.

Lope ti kimatthaṃ? Padasā, tapasā (Khu. ii, 121), yasasā (Khu. ii, 73), vacasā (A. i, 504), manasā (Khu. i, 13). Evaṃ aññe pi yojetabbā.

When there is elision, [there is] ‘o’ of these.
When the inflection is elided, the end [vowel] of the group “mano” and others becomes ‘o’.
This example will be given in Chapter 5.
What is the purpose of taking “ādi”? The end [vowel] of other words becomes ‘o’. Āposamena, vāyosamena.
What is the purpose of saying “when [the inflection] is elided”? [This sutta does not apply when the inflection is not elided, such as in:] Padasā, tapasā, yasasā, vacasā, manasā. Thus the others are also to be formed.

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
