382. 259. Aṭṭhādito ca (813)

[Aṭṭha-ādito + ca = 2 words]

Aṭṭha icc evamādito ca dasasaddassa dakārassa rakārādeso hoti vā saṅkhyāne.

Aṭṭhārasa (Abh. ii, 92), aṭṭhadasa.

Aṭṭhādito ti kimatthaṃ? Pañcadasa, soḷasa (Abh. ii, 93).

Saṅkhyāne ti kimatthaṃ? Aṭṭhadasiko.

And after “aṭṭha” (eight) and others.
And optionally, in the numbers, after “aṭṭha” (eight) and others, the letter ‘da’ of the word “dasa” is substituted by the letter ‘ra’.
  1. Aṭṭhārasa, aṭṭhadasa (eighteen).

What is the purpose of saying “aṭṭhādito” (after “aṭṭha” and others)? [To prevent the operation of this rule in cases like] “pañcadasa” (fifteen) and “soḷasa” (sixteen), [which do not follow “aṭṭha” and others].

What is the purpose of saying “saṅkhyāne” (in the numbers)? [To prevent the operation of this rule in cases like] “aṭṭhadasiko” (the house that has eighteen posts), [which is not pure numeration].

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
