Ekādito dassa ra saṅkhyāne

In the numbers, after “eka” (one) and others, [there is] ‘ra’ of ‘da’.

381. 254. Ekādito dassa

[Eka-ādito + dassa + ra + saṅkhyāne = 4 words]

Ekādito dasassa dakārassa rakāro hoti vā saṅkhyāne.

Ekārasa, ekādasa; bārasa, dvādasa.

Saṅkhyāne ti kimatthaṃ? Dvādasāyatanāni.

In the numbers, after “eka” (one) and others, [there is] ‘ra’ of ‘da’.
Optionally, in the numbers, after “eka” (one) and others, the letter ‘da’ of “dasa” is substituted by the letter ‘ra’.
  1. Ekārasa, ekādasa (eleven).
  2. Bārasa, dvādasa (twelve).

What is the purpose of saying “saṅkhyāne” (in the numbers)? [To prevent the operation of this rule in cases like] “dvādasāyatanāni” (the twelve spheres), [which is not pure numeration].
