349. 372. Ṇera vidhavādito (758-9)

Tasmā vidhavādito ṇerapaccayo hoti vā “tass’ āpaccam” icc etasmiṃ atthe.

Vidhavāya apaccaṃ vedhavero (Khu. vi, 327), vidhavāya apaccaṃ vā. Bandhukiyā apaccaṃ bandhukero, bandhukiyā apaccaṃ vā. Samaṇassa apaccaṃ sāmaṇero (Vin. ii, 160; iii, 116), samaṇassa apaccaṃ vā. Evaṃ sāmaṇerī (Vin. ii, 160, 458), sāmaṇeraṃ, nāḷikero, nāḷikerī, nāḷikeraṃ.

After “vidhavā” and others, [there is] ‘ṇera’.
Optionally, after “vidhavā” (widow) and others, there is the suffix ‘ṇera’ in this meaning: “the offspring of him”.
  1. Vidhavāya apaccaṃ (the offspring of a widow: the son of a widow): vedhavero.
  2. Bandhukiyā apaccaṃ (the offspring of a licentious woman): bandhukero.
  3. Samaṇassa apaccaṃ (the offspring of a monk: a novice): sāmaṇero.

Likewise:

  1. sāmaṇerī (a female novice), sāmaṇeraṃ (the family of the female novice).
  2. nāḷikero (a coconut tree), nāḷikerī (a female coconut tree), nāḷikeraṃ (the family of the coconut tree).
