298. 287. Kāladdhānam accantasaṃyoge (581)

[Kāla-addhānaṃ + accanta-saṃyoge = 2 words]

Kāladdhānaṃ accantasaṃyoge dutiyāvibhatti hoti.

Māsaṃ maṃsodanaṃ bhuñjati; saradaṃ ramaṇīyā nadī; māsaṃ sajjhāyati. Yojanaṃ vanarāji; yojanaṃ dīgho pabbato; kosaṃ sajjhāyati.

Accantasaṃyoge ti kimatthaṃ? Saṃvacchare bhojanaṃ bhuñjati.

In the constant conjunction of time and space.
When there is constant conjunction of time and of space, there is the second inflection.
  1. Māsaṃ maṃsodanaṃ bhuñjati (eats meat and rice for a month [every day for one month]).
  2. Saradaṃ ramaṇīyā nadī (the river is beautiful during the autumn).
  3. Māsaṃ sajjhāyati (recites for a month).
  4. Yojanaṃ vanarāji (the line of the forest is one yojana long).
  5. Yojanaṃ dīgho pabbato (the mountain is one yojana long).
  6. Kosaṃ sajjhāyati (recites for a kosa [one quarter of a yojana]).

What is the purpose of saying “accantasaṃyoge” (constant conjunction)? [This sutta does not apply when there is no constant conjunction, as in:] Saṃvacchare bhojanaṃ bhuñjati (eats food during the year).

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
