Tiye du-tāpi ca

And also, when ‘tiya’ follows, [there are] ‘du’ and ‘ta’.

386. 410. Tiye du-tāpi ca (818)

[Tiye + du-tā + api + ca = 4 words]

Dvi ti icc etesaṃ du ta icc ete ādesā honti tiyapaccaye pare.

Dutiyo (Khu. ix, 49), tatiyo (Khu. ix, 48).

Apiggahaṇena aññesu pi dvi icc etassa duādeso hoti. Durattaṃ.

Caggahaṇena dvi icc etassa dikāro hoti. Dirattaṃ (Vin. ii, 28); diguṇaṃ saṅghāṭiṃ pārupetvā (Vin. iii, 402).

And also, when ‘tiya’ follows, [there are] ‘du’ and ‘ta’.
When the suffix ‘tiya’ follows, “dvi” (two) and “ti” (three) are substituted by ‘du’ and ‘ta’.
  1. Dutiyo (second), tatiyo (third).

By taking “api”, also when other [suffixes] follow, “dvi” is substituted by ‘du’.

  1. Durattaṃ (two nights).

By taking “ca”, “dvi” becomes ‘di’.

  1. Dirattaṃ (two nights); diguṇaṃ saṅghāṭiṃ pārupetvā (having put on the outer robe that has two layers).
