Saṅkhyāpūraṇe mo

373. 406. Saṅkhyāpūraṇe mo (802)

[Saṅkhyāpūraṇe + mo = 2 words]

Saṅkhyāpūraṇatthe mapaccayo hoti.

Pañcannaṃ pūraṇo pañcamo (A. i, 9). Evaṃ sattamo (A. i, 12), aṭṭhamo (A. i, 14), navamo (A. i, 16), dasamo (A. i, 19).

[There is] ‘ma’ in the ordinals.
In the meaning of ordinal, there is the suffix ‘ma’.
  1. Pañcannaṃ pūraṇo: pañcamo (the completion of five: fifth).

Likewise:

  1. Sattannaṃ pūraṇo: sattamo (the completion of seven: seventh).
  2. Aṭṭhannaṃ pūraṇo: aṭṭhamo (the completion of eight: eighth).
  3. Navannaṃ pūraṇo: navamo (the completion of nine: ninth).
  4. Dasannaṃ pūraṇo: dasamo (the completion of ten: tenth).
