Tad assa ṭhānam iyo ca

And [there is] ‘iya’ in “this is its cause”.

356. 381. Tad assa ṭhānam iyo

[Taṃ + assa + ṭhānaṃ + iyo + ca = 5 words]

“Tad assa ṭhānam” icc etasmiṃ atthe iyapaccayo hoti.

Madanassa ṭhānaṃ madaniyaṃ (A. ii, 60), bandhanassa ṭhānaṃ bandhaniyaṃ (A. ii, 60), mucchanassa ṭhānaṃ mucchaniyaṃ (A. ii, 60). Evaṃ rajaniyaṃ, kamaniyaṃ (A. ii, 60), gamaniyaṃ, dussaniyaṃ (Khu. iii, 74), dassaniyaṃ (D. i, 44).

And [there is] ‘iya’ in “this is its cause”.
In this meaning, “this is its cause (tad assa ṭhānaṃ)”, there is the suffix ‘iya’.
  1. Madanassa ṭhānaṃ: madaniyaṃ (the cause of intoxication: liquor).
  2. Bandhanassa ṭhānaṃ: bandhaniyaṃ (the cause of captivity).
  3. Mucchanassa ṭhānaṃ: mucchaniyaṃ (the cause of fainting).

Likewise:

  1. Rajanānaṃ ṭhānaṃ: rajaniyaṃ (the cause of attachment).
  2. Kamanassa ṭhānaṃ: kamaniyaṃ (the cause of liking).
  3. Gamanassa ṭhānaṃ: gamaniyaṃ (the cause of going).
  4. Dussanassa ṭhānaṃ: dussaniyaṃ (the cause of anger).
  5. Dassanassa ṭhānaṃ: dassaniyaṃ (the cause of seeing).
