501. 443. Gamissa ghammaṃ (1013)

[Gamissa + ghammaṃ = 2 words]

Gamu icc etassa dhātussa sabbassa ghammādeso hoti vā.

Ghammatu, ghammāhi, ghammāmi.

Vā ti kimatthaṃ? Gacchatu, gacchāhi (JA. iv, 149), gacchāmi (Vin. iii, 12).

[There is] ‘ghamma’ of “gamu”.
Optionally, there is the substitution ‘ghamma’ of the whole root “gamu”.
  1. Ghammatu (let [him] go), ghammāhi (go!), ghammāmi (I go).

What is the purpose of saying “vā” (optionally)? To allow an exception to this rule, such as in the following examples: gacchatu (let [him] go), gacchāhi (go!), gacchāmi (I go).

Without the footnotes: they are on the chapter card.
